The Complete Guide to Organizing Groups on MeUp

Learn how to create and manage groups to organize your communities and control event visibility.

Groups are one of MeUp's most powerful features. They help you organize different communities and control who sees your events. Here's everything you need to know about creating and managing groups.

What Are Groups?

Groups in MeUp are collections of users that share a common interest, relationship, or community. They serve two main purposes:

  • Organization - Keep different friend circles and communities separate
  • Event Visibility - Control who can see specific events

Creating Your First Group

Step 1: Access Group Creation

From the Groups tab, tap the + button to create a new group.

Step 2: Add Group Details

  • Description (Optional)

  • Explain what the group is about

  • Set expectations for membership

  • Include any relevant information
  • Group Image (Optional)

  • Add an image to make your group recognizable

  • Step 3: Choose Privacy Settings

    Public Groups

  • Anyone can see the group

  • Anyone can join without approval

  • Great for open communities and large gatherings
  • Private Groups

  • Only members can see group details

  • You control who joins

  • Perfect for close friend groups and exclusive communities
  • Step 4: Create

Tap "Create Group" and your group is live!

    Adding Members

    For Public Groups

Users can find and join your public group themselves. You can also invite specific people.

    For Private Groups

    You control membership:
    • Open your group
    • Tap "Add Members"
    • Search for users
    • Select people to add
    • They're instantly added to the group

Pro tip: The search auto-focuses when you open it, making it quick to find and add people.

    Managing Your Groups

      View All Your Groups

    • Groups you created

      Open any group to see:

      As a group owner:

    • Access member profiles directly

    Group Events

View all upcoming events specifically for your group. This filtered feed shows only events associated with your group, making it easy to see what's planned.

    Using Groups with Events

The real power of groups comes when creating events:

    Group-Only Events

When creating an event, you can associate it with one or more groups:
    • In event creation, tap "Select Groups"
    • Choose one or multiple groups
    • Only members of those groups will see the event

    Benefits:

  • Keep private events truly private

  • Target specific communities

  • Reduce noise in feeds

  • Organize events by community
    • Multi-Group Events

You can associate a single event with multiple groups:
    • Great for cross-community events
    • Bring different groups together
    • Maintain privacy across multiple communities
    • Public vs. Group Events

      Public Events (no groups selected)
    • Visible to all your followers
    • Appear in the main feed
    • Anyone following you can see and join

    Group Events (groups selected)

  • Only visible to group members

  • Appear in group feeds

  • Only group members can see and join
  • Group Use Cases
